In the middle of a very full and busy Christmas period for Birmingham Citadel Band, is the great privilege that is Christmas with the Salvation Army at Birmingham’s magnificent Symphony Hall.
Birmingham Citadel church is blessed with a wealth of musical talent and record crowds at this year’s event were able to enjoy this as the Christmas message was portrayed through the music of the bands, choirs and soloists as well as the children who presented the Nativity.
BCB contributed a variety of music including Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s “Christmas Fanfare: Christians Awake”, Barrie Gott’s “Deck the Hall” and Alwyn Green’s “Joy to the World”. Also featured was Peter Graham’s march “The Shining Star” and accompaniments for our guest soloist Rob Moye, including “Seekers of Light” and a big band arrangement of “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town”. Our major work for the day was Paul Sharman’s “On Christmas Night”.
It was busy day but a wonderful opportunity to play for over 3000 audience members across the two performances and a special privilege to present the Christmas message as a Church family.
The band have been involved in many engagements during December. We have played carols in Birmingham City Centre every Saturday through December and there have been a number of other carolling engagements across the City. We have been honoured to play carols for the patients, staff and parents at Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital and played to a large crowd of elderly folk at the Rotary Carol Service.
We hope and pray that you have a wonderful Christmas and pray God’s blessing upon you in 2017.
